Some of you may have noticed I haven’t blogged in over a month now, but I’ve been working diligently behind the scenes on a couple different things. One of these includes participating in my very first craft show where I was able to share some of my creative goodies and “junk” finds.
I’ve thought about doing a show for quite some time now but wasn’t sure if I would be any good at it. Finally, I decided to take a leap of faith and just went for it. Since I work full-time, I didn’t want to get in over my head so I signed up for a smaller show to just get my feet wet and turns out…I LOVE it!
With lots of help from my family and friends, I was able to put together the cutest little booth filled with some of my vintage finds, repurposed furniture and some different handmade signs. This particular show was marketed as more of a holiday event so I wanted to make sure I followed more of a Christmas theme with lots of reds, greenery and fun holiday décor.
From a business perspective, I wanted to make sure I had my ducks in a row. I ordered business cards, shopping bags, colored tissue paper, a credit card reader, price tags, made a huge, freestanding shiplap wall…I even set up my entire booth in my garage to make sure it was going to look okay. So I might have gone a little overboard but better to be over-prepared right. It’s like trying to decide what to where to a wedding…I’d rather be over-dressed than under-dressed…right?! lol
The experience of the show was one I’ll never forget as I met so many awesome vendors and the compliments I received from everyone on my booth was so humbling. It really opened up my eyes and made me realize that, “Hey! I might actually be good at this!”
Since the show, I’ve been putting a large amount of time into my Etsy shop and refining my skills and processes related to my signs, which I found I really enjoy making. This time of year, right before the holidays, has really been great with everyone requesting décor for Christmas or signs for gifting so I’m just embracing the pre-Christmas rush and loving every minute of it! It just goes to show that if you have a passion for something, don’t let fear get in your way. We only have one life to live so get after it! 🙂
